hannspree07.jpg

The Hannspree HF239H is a fantastic 28 Inch LCD Monitor that is one of the best values out there.  For the price of most 24 inch monitors, you can get this 28 inch monitor with superb display quality.

With my middle aged eyes, reading comics on my 22 inch LCD monitor required too much effort so I began to look f ...

Review: Nabaztag/tag Wi-Fi Enabled Toy Rabbit
Gadgets By gmon3 on 12/29/2007
Nabaztag1.jpg

According to Wikipedia, Nabaztag is Armenian for “rabbit”. It is also the name for a whimsical Wi-Fi enabled toy rabbit that can interact with you through colored lights, speech, and ear movements.

I received my little bunny as a Christmas present this year and I'm still not quite sure what to make of it. Prior to receiving it, I had never heard of it before.

Review: Magellan RoadMate 2200T GPS (Refurbished)
Gadgets By gmon3 on 11/28/2007

Magellan4.jpg

I've been thinking about getting a GPS for awhile now but kept putting it off until prices dropped. Most of the GPS units with the features I wanted were around $500. I didn't want to spend that much on a GPS. Then I noticed that Buy.com was selling a refurbished Magellan RoadMate 2200T for only $167.99 (The price is currently $189 at Buy.com but I noticed that NewEgg is now selling the same refurbished unit for $169) along with a rebate of $20. $150 for a GPS with text to speech was mighty tempting.

Review: weaKnees 320GB TiVo Replacement Drive Kit
Gadgets By gmon3 on 9/22/2007

I love my TiVo – it's one of my most favorite and useful gadgets that I own. Once you get used to the TiVo way of recording shows you can never go back to the old VCR. But my 40GB Series2 TiVo has been feeling cramped. I've had situations where I turn on my TiVo with the intent of catching up on some of my shows but realized with horror that the shows had been recorded over by newer shows. So, I finally bit the bullet and ordered a 320 GB TiVo Replacement Drive Kit from www.weaknees.com.

Review: Omron HJ-112 Digital Premium Pedometer
Gadgets By gmon3 on 8/27/2007

The Omron HJ-112 Digital Premium Pedometer is a nifty little gadget that keeps track of the number of steps you've taken, the distance you've traveled, and the number of calories burned. It's a great motivational tool to help you keep on track on your weight lost program.

omron_pedometer.jpg

The Omron HJ-112 is my first pedometer and I was a little curious how it could actually keep count of the number of steps you have taken. I had imagined that a person would carry a pedometer in their hand and press a bu ...

Review: Radio Shack Accurian Tabletop HD Radio (Model #12-1686)
Gadgets By gmon3 on 6/24/2007

The Radio Shack Tabletop HD Radio (Model #12-1686) is one of the new breed of radio receivers that can pick up the new HD Radio standard along with your traditional AM/FM stations.

The new HD Radio standard piggybacks a compressed digital signal onto the current analog signal of radio stations in a way that is compatible with current radio receivers. Current receivers will continue to be able to pick up the analog signals while HD Radio receivers will be able to pick up both the current analog signals and the piggybacked compressed digital signals.

HD Radio works with both AM and FM signals. With HD Radio, FM stations can broadcast CD-quality sound and AM stations can broadcast FM-quality sound.&l ...

Review: Brother QL-500 EC Complete Labeling Kit
Computer Hardware By gmon3 on 5/29/2007
In the past, I have bought a lot of computer equipment and many of them came with a mail-in rebate.  I always hated filling out the rebate forms and hand writing the addresses on the envelopes.  I thought about buying labels for my ink jet printer but the ones I've seen usually come in a sheet and are therefore inconvenient when you only one to print out one label.

So, when Staples had a sale on the Brother QL-500 Label Printer, I just had to try it out!

Inside the box, I found the following items:

  1. QL-500 Printer
  2. Starter Roll
  3. USB cable
  4. Installation CD-ROM
  5. Quick Start Guide

Review: IOGEAR GCS1764 4-Port DVI KVMP Switch
Computer Hardware By gmon3 on 5/25/2007
KVM Switches allow you to reduce desk clutter by sharing a single keyboard, monitor and mouse among mutliple computers.  The IOGear GCS1764 is a 4 port DVI KVM switche that also features independent USB and audio switching.

GCS1764.png

Even though LCD monitors with DVI inputs are widespread now, there are not a lot of choices for DVI KVM switches.  Out of the few choices out there, the IOGear GCS1764 seemed to offer most of the features I wanted:

Dual function KVMP/USB switch
One console controls 4 computers
Independent (asynchronous) switching of KVM and peripheral USB/audio ports
Fully compliant with the USB 1.1 specification - supports transfer rates of up to 12 Mbps
DVI digital and analog monitor support - fully compliant with the DVI specifications
Computer selection via front panel ...
